6 Time Management Tips for Moms

Many of you have expressed the challenge of not having enough time to accomplish all your needed tasks and not being organized. Having good organization and management skills is absolutely imperative to your business. Being well organized can greatly affect your successfulness. Applying a few of the following tips will help you become more organized and make better use of your time.

1. Learn to delegate

Most of us are mothers and as moms we tend to automatically take on everything and are used to doing everything ourselves. There's absolutely nothing wrong with delegating different tasks.

2. Set business hours

One way to keep yourself and your business organized is to set regular business hours. You know Monday through Friday 1 - 4 or whatever times works best for you and your family and try to stick to it as much as possible.

3. Keep your office organized

Have a place for everything keeping like things together.

4. Group like activities/errands

Keep track of errands that need done and try scheduling most of them on the same day.

5. To-do lists

Having a to-do list keeps you motivated and lets you know what needs done at all times.

6. Plan for tomorrow

Make it a habit to review the following days schedule at the end of each day.

Take a few minutes right now and start a list of everything you need to get done. Take that list and re-write it by placing the things that most need accomplished and place them at the top of your list. Once you're finished get back to work and cross off tasks as you go. Not only will you find yourself getting more accomplished you'll also find a sense of fulfillment.

Microsoft Great Plains Inventory Control ? Overview For Consultant

Microsoft Business Solutions Great Plains is marketed for mid-size companies as well as Navision (which has very good positions in Europe and emerging markets where it can be easily localized). Great Plains Inventory control is pretty robust and here we would like to give you highlights on standard functionality as well as what could be added to its standard features.

Historically Great Plains Dynamics / eEnterprise was designed with modules structure with very clear ERP workflow ? Inventory control had a link to General Ledger and was interacting with Sales Order Processing, Invoicing, later on with Purchase Order Processing (it was some development and unsuccessful marriage with Intellisol Purchase Order Processing third party module), Project Accounting and Manufacturing set. Inventory control has addition in the form of Bill of Materials module (we see the whole spectrum of downsizing manufacturing companies, who are switching from full-featured manufacturing to Great Plains Inventory control with Bill of Materials). Features:

? Inventory Allocation ? from SOP Sales Order, Invoice you can automatically of manually allocate Inventory items

? Sales Item, Service, Misc Charge, Flat Fee, etc ? these are types of the Inventory items.

? Serial and Lot Number tracking ? serial number is unique, while Lot Number might be assigned to the lot of items

? LIFO, FIFO, Average with Periodic or Perpetual ? these terms should be familiar to accountant

? Inventory Class ? you can group items into the class and have reporting in ReportWriter or just Crystal Reports to summarize by inventory class

? Kit ? item might be a set of items ? or a kit

? Substitute items ? you can have two (GP version 7.5 and 8.0)

? ABC Codes ? is you are familiar with replenishment or manufacturing

? Accounts distribution ? Great Plains first look if you specify accounts on the item level, then if these are empty ? it look at the class level and then to Setup->Posting->Posting Accounts

? Inventory Count ? this nice feature was added several years ago with version 5.0

Add-Ons:

? Barcoding ? you have to check with your Microsoft Great Plains Partner which third party solution fits to your needs.

? Manufacturing ? Great Plains Software bought Icontrol Manufacturing and integrated it into Great Plains about 8 years ago and now it is seamlessly integrated with Inventory Control module

? Web front ? there are eConnect (SDK for eCommerce developer), eOrder, and other eXXX series products that you could deploy. There is a good chance that you will have to develop custom web-interface to your Great Plains back end

Good luck with implementation, customization and integration and if you have issues or concerns ? we are here to help! If you want us to do the job - give us a call 1-630-961-5918 or 1-866-528-0577! help@albaspectrum.com

Armor-bearer Coach: Step Into the Ministry of Assisting

I am with you heart and mind...

"Do all that you have in mind," his armorbearer said, "Go ahead; I am with you heart and soul." ?1 Samuel 14:7.

Have you ever had an overwhelmingly trouble-filled day, where circumstances seem to be against you on all sides? Look in on young Prince Jonathan (son of King Saul) on just that kind of day. It is a known fact his boss who was his father had backslidden from God. His dad had counted only 600 soldiers left from his 3,000-member army. He had just gotten the news that three war parties were dispatched from the enemies' camp.

On top of those facts, the Philistines had banned blacksmiths in the land of Israel. Therefore, there was not a single sword or spear in the entire army of Israel that day, except his own and his father's. A day or so later, Prince Jonathan decided to go over to the enemy's camp with his armorbearer to spy out the camp. He did not tell anyone where they were going. They crossed a narrow pass between two steep cliffs. Upon arriving, he said to his armorbearer, "Let's go over to those heathen, maybe the Lord will do a miracle. It doesn't matter to him how many is in their army." His armorbearer said, "Yes! Do whatever is in your mind. I am with you heart and soul."

The rest is history. Prince Jonathan and his armorbearer climbed over the cliff and killed about twenty men who fell left and right. After that, panic struck the entire Philistine army and at that same moment, a great earthquake came. The Philistines began killing each other in confusion. The Lord saved Israel that day through a man of God and his armorbearer.14

Have you been appointed to support someone in your leadership? Is your heart set toward helping this person accomplish their God-given tasks? If the answer is yes, then you are not alone. All over the Body of Christ, God continues to make specific appointments of helpers to assist His authorities. As an administration of the Helps ministry, He has uniquely formed the armorbearer's place in His support system. It is a part of His design for a team to strengthen His leaders.

Recently, I listened to a friend complain about a Church project using a well-used phrase, "There are too many chiefs and not enough Indians around here. It seems everyone wants to be in charge." My mind drifted as I thought, "How many times have I heard this complaint about various teams over the years. I thought about the need of understanding God's authority structure. It is not a new struggle nor is it isolated to the New Testament Church, as I considered Moses and Aaron's conflict with Israelite grumblers. They had complained against the leadership of Moses and especially Aaron saying, "We are all chosen and holy, who set you above all the Israelites?"

Under Old Testament law, judgment and destruction came to many of those who complained. God, in His mercy, approved Aaron's leadership with a budded, blossoming staff with ripe almonds hanging from it among the staffs that stayed the same. He then graciously reiterated the duties of the leaders and the supporters.1 It is a fact, not everyone is called to be a leader at the same time. Someone must lead and others must follow. From Scripture, we discovered God appoints leaders and those to support them.

When Jonathan is found on top of the hill spying out the enemy's camp, we don't have to look very far to find his helper. He was there with him. Scripture says Jonathan turned to his armorbearer and said, "Let's go up?" His assistant's response was, "Do all that is in your mind. For I am with you heart and soul." 2 Those words are music to any leader's ears, whether he is a weary church leader or a pastor needing an arm of support. I believe the Body of Christ needs those who will support the man or woman of God in a more tangible way. God is looking for people who will be with their assigned leader heart and soul.

With any ministry, gift, or talent God has entrusted us to use, we must develop it to reach its fullest potential. To develop the ministry of helping as an armorbearer, do this:

? Build relationship. Get to know whom you are serving. Relationship will guard you. For example, one key thing relationship will guard you against are the baits of Satan (offenses). When he comes to distort the truth about your authority, you can say, "I know this person there must be a reason for this." Your leader may do the same for you through relationship.

? Personalize your service. What one leader desires will be different from another. Each pastor or leader has a different set of gifts and needs of service than another. Learn what your leader's are and personalize your service. Allow the Holy Spirit to guide you. Be attentive to his promptings. He will teach you what works best for your authority.

? Be pure in your service. Make sure your service is to your leader's benefit. For example, a pastor friend of mine expressed her disappointment at the immaturity of her assistant. She explained, "My armorbearer insisted she come to my speaking engagement for support. I said great, and then she asked if I would pick her up, which was fine but on the way, I interpreted two dreams, counseled her, and prayed with her before arriving at the meeting. I was drained before I made it to the platform." I agreed with my friend's frustration regarding the assistant's lack of consideration for her need. Remember, there is a time and place for everything. Allow your concerns and needs to take a backseat to discerning your leader's need. God is faithful; as you plant seeds of excellent service in your leader's life, He will remember to take care of you.

? Wear Godly garments. Be careful of the attitude you wear when serving your leader. One of my team leaders says often, "I am careful of my attitude and mindset when I serve my leaders because whether I intend to or not I often transfer it to them. I don't want them to have to guard against receiving a bad attitude from me." If we strive to wear a garment of humility, kindness, and congeniality, our leaders may safely trust themselves to us.

? Develop loyalty in your ministry. Determine to be where your assigned leader is. Have you considered where Joshua was when Moses went up the mountain to receive the law of God? We can only assume he was somewhere close by because he was right there with him when he came off the mountain forty days later. Remember, how can your ministry to him or her be developed if you are not in place?

? Develop a watchful spirit. Jesus said to his assistants on the first night of his trial, "Watch and pray?" Yet, they were unable to stay awake to watch. He then gave us the key to a watchful spirit in His last words to them saying, "The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak." 13 If it is your hour of trial or your leader's hour of trial, determine to build your spirit so that you may remain alert and prayerful.

Our leaders are calling for us. They are looking for someone who will commit to the long-term. There are pastors and leaders who are weary in the fight because we have not taken our place. We must take our place as God appointed armorbearers, assistants, and helpers in His army. God will hold us accountable for the support that should have been given if that leader fails because of it.

Attitude Adjustment 101: Nine Ways to Transform You From Mediocre to Magnificent

"Work on your career and you'll make a living. Work on yourself and you'll make a fortune."

- Jim Rohn

Regardless of the number of college credits or degrees you have, the truth is that much of your success is determined by your attitude. Education is worthwhile but a good attitude is priceless. If you search for a college that has a concentration of study entitled "Attitude," you will come up empty handed. Yet, the world would be a better place if we could all major in "Attitude."

If attitude is not taught in school, then how come some people have great attitudes and others don't? More important, how can you change from a mediocre attitude to a magnificent one?

First, to adjust your attitude, you must be brutally honest with yourself and take responsibility for your attitude. You are the only one who can change you. Be accountable for who you are and how you behave. Tell yourself that blame is unacceptable.

Second, recognize warning signs like negative thoughts, blame and pessimism. Your mind is like a computer; the beliefs you put in (input) create the actions you take out (output). For example, if you tell yourself that you are "just okay," you will be "just okay." What you think about, you will become.

Third, use positive affirmations. Tell yourself every day that you are an outstanding person capable of achieving your goals. When the woman at the coffee shop in the morning asks how I am, I flash a big smile and reply "I'm great" or I'm outstanding." Replace negative and mediocre with excellent and amazing. Stand up taller each morning. Breathe deeply to allow air into your diaphragm. Smile more, even at people you don't know. Live a new level of excellence every day. Reach higher.

Fourth, your subconscious mind operates on images and pictures. Before you go to sleep, envision your ideal day. What are you doing? What are you wearing? Who are you with? Are you in a meeting, confidently speaking before your boss and colleagues? Are you on the beach playing with your children and spouse? See and feel yourself in this moment as a huge success. Do you want a new house, job or relationship? Imagine it as if it already happened.

Fifth, write down your goals. The subconscious mind kicks into action when you put your goals in writing. List three short-term and three long-term goals. Then, give your dreams deadlines (a date of accomplishment) and outline the steps you will take every day to reach your goals and dreams.

Sixth, put your head down and focus. Successful people do not spend time with negative water cooler gossip and time wasters. Set your goals and get to work.

Seventh, think about a successful person you admire. What are his or her personality traits, characteristics and values? Chances are the person who came to mind is successful because he or she decided to be positive and upbeat, to expect great accomplishments and to focus on doing whatever it takes to achieve his or her goals. Surround yourself with cheerful successful people.

Eighth, avoid "naysayers" who shoot you down, speak negatively or have poor work and personal habits.

Ninth, practice these ways to adjust your attitude for at least 21 days. That's how long it takes to form a new habit.

President John F. Kennedy said, "The human mind is our most fundamental resource." Your mind is a fertile garden that will grow whatever you plant in it. What seeds are you planting in your mind? Are you planting seeds of opportunity and growth or weeds like cynicism and mediocrity? Life is better when you have a good attitude. So go ahead and give yourself the chance to move from mediocre to magnificent. We all have the tools. The key is to use the resources that we have to become totally amazing!

Where Does Your Drinking Water Come From?

Have you ever thought about where your drinking water comes from? Most of us never give this question a thought. Yet, the sources of our water tell us a lot about its quality.

The Importance of Water Sources

Very early in the development of civilizations, people recognized the importance of finding reliable water sources. A clean, constant supply of safe drinking water is essential for every community. Consequently, the earliest civilizations developed near sources of clean water.

As time passed, people began to migrate and settle in areas many miles from a reliable water source. So they developed delivery systems that drew water from those distant sources. The Roman aqueducts are an excellent example of such a delivery system.

Today, people in large cities frequently depend on surface water sources, such as lakes, rivers, and reservoirs, for their drinking water. Sometimes these sources are close to the community. At other times, water suppliers get their water from sources many miles away.

In either case, when you think about the source of your drinking water, it's important to consider the entire watershed in which the source is located. The watershed is the land area over which water flows into the river, lake, or reservoir.

In rural areas, people are more likely to drink ground water pumped from a well. These wells tap into aquifers or natural reservoirs under the earth's surface. These aquifers may be only a few miles wide, or may span the borders of many states. As with surface water, remember that activities many miles away from you may affect the quality of ground water.

Both public and private water supplies can be drawn from a variety of sources. Different sources of raw water demand different treatment methods to render it fit for human consumption.

Deep Groundwater Sources

The water emerging from some deep groundwater sources may have fallen as rain many decades or even hundreds of years ago. Soil and rock layers will naturally filter the groundwater to a high degree of clarity. Deep groundwater may emerge as springs. In places where the water does not emerge as springs, water suppliers will often bore wells to extract it.

Usually, groundwater has a very high bacteriological quality. Because the water passed through layers of soil and rock, it may also be rich in dissolved solids including carbonates and Sulfates of Calcium and Magnesium.

Depending on the strata through which the water has flowed, other ions may also be present. These could include chloride and bicarbonates. Often, water from deep sources requires special treatment to remove its iron or manganese content to make it pleasant for drinking, cooking, and laundry.

Seepage of surface water recharges these deep groundwater sources. This seepage introduces industrial, chemical, animal and human contaminants into these underground aquifers. As these contaminants merge with natural elements in the water, health threats are introduced and disinfection is required.

Shallow Groundwater Sources

While deep groundwater lays far below ground level, shallow groundwater travels in streams within a few hundred feet of ground level. Access to shallow groundwater is usually through wells or boreholes.

The bacteriological quality of these shallow sources can vary depending on the nature of the underground reservoir. A variety of soluble materials may be present including potentially toxic metals such as copper or zinc. In some places, shallow ground water sources contain unacceptably high levels of Arsenic contamination.

Upland Lakes and Reservoirs

Typically, municipalities place upland reservoirs in the headwaters of river systems, above any human habitation. They often surround them by some form of protection zone to restrict the opportunities for contamination.

Bacterial and pathogen levels are usually low, but some bacteria, protozoa and algae will be present. Where uplands are forested or are peaty, humic acids can give the water a brown color. Many upland sources have low pH which requires adjustment before the water enters the supply.

Rivers, Canals and Low-Land Reservoirs

Lowland surface waters primarily come from rain runoff. As rainwater washes the streets of our cities and filters through landfills and farmlands, it picks up a significant bacterial load. It may also contain algae, suspended solids and a variety of dissolved elements.

Conclusions

All water sources contribute to water contamination. The source of your water determines the kind of contaminants it carries.

While water treatment facilities neutralize most of the contaminants, some escape and end up in your drinking water. Many of these contaminants are harmless and, at most, give the water a bad taste or odor. Other pose potential health threats.

To protect yourself and your family from these potential threats, we recommend the use of a home water filtration system to assure that your drinking water is clean.

Earl Calvert is a freelance writer. His writings include Bible study curriculum materials and articles for national business magazines. As an advocate for clean drinking water, Earl designed his website on drinking water to educate the public water quality issues.

Save Money on Your Wedding Dress

Your wedding is quite possibly the most important day of your life and you've probably been dreaming about it since you were about 12 years old. The dress you choose is ultimately going to be what people look at and remember about your wedding. That being said, you want to find the perfect dress that will make your guest's and husband's jaws hit the floor when you walk down the aisle. Are you thinking that may be unrealistic with your wedding budget? Think again! We have some of the best shopping tips in order to help you save money on your wedding dress. This way you can enjoy your wedding while maintaining a reasonable wedding budget.

  • Shop Around ? Don't assume the first dress you try on is going to be the best deal or look the best on you. There are many dresses to try.

  • Discount Bridal Salons ? Discount bridal salons often have sales of up to 75% off (especially on last year's merchandise) which can save you a lot of money in the long run. If you hear of a discount sale, make sure you know what you are looking for since many women go crazy at these events and dresses are often gone in a matter of minutes.

  • Have Someone Make Your Dress ? If you have a talented friend or family member who you trust to make your wedding dress for you, you can save an enormous amount of money and still have a great dress for your big day.

  • Look on the Internet ? the Internet is a great place to search and explore the many options of styles for your dress and you are guaranteed to find dresses which do not cost a fortune.

  • Bridal Salons ? normal bridal salons (as opposed to discount) sometimes have sales which offer around 30% off last years merchandise. The salons near where you live are definitely worth looking into.

  • Borrow or Rent ? Some women cringe at the thought of borrowing or renting a wedding gown, but others may not take it as seriously. Wedding dresses are really only worn for one day and renting or borrowing can really save you a lot of money.

  • Seamstresses ? Contact a seamstress and ask for a quote. It's unlikely that a seamstress is going to charge you as much as a bridal salon. If you do this, make sure to ask about their experience in this area or past brides who you can contact. This will ensure they are reputable and there won't be any "mishaps" with your dress.

Finding the perfect wedding dress is important, but paying a ridiculous amount for one dress can be a waste of your money. Finding the perfect wedding dress for the perfect price, now that's a wedding dream come true!

Poly Tarps: More Than Meets The Eye

To many people, "tarp" conjures an image of a crumpled canvas in the corner of the garage, or maybe that shiny blue plastic sheet in the hardware store.

But tarps are the beneficiary of some of the best technology in textile and chemical treatments. And so they have been adapted to many uses, whether at home, in the garden, on a camping trip, in the workshop, in the industrial yard, or on the construction site.

The workhorse of all tarpaulins, there are more color, material, construction, and size combinations in poly tarps than for any other. They are readily available. And as long as you select the right one for the job, tarps provide good protection for almost anything that needs shelter from the elements.

It's no wonder that the common tarp is one of the most versatile of all 'tools'.

    Basic Poly Tarps

Blue or green poly tarps are, overall, the least expensive of all tarps. The cheapest ones are little more than a thin sheet of plastic. And like anything else, the cheaper they are, the less durability you'll have.

Basic(but good quality) poly tarps are made using a weave of nylon chord, with a laminate of polyethylene on both sides. Thread size is typically 700-800 denier, and the fabric weight will be between 2- 4 ounces per square yard.

They are waterproof, as well as resistant to rot and mildew. And they provide a good multi-purpose covering that provides basic protection from the elements.

But don't make the same mistake that so many people do: Do not use a poly tarp as a cheap way to cover your vehicle. Polyethylene does not breathe, and the resulting condensation under the tarp is guaranteed to cause you problems. On our web site, you can find much better ways to protect your car, boat or RV.

    Heavy-Duty Poly Tarps

In addition to the basic version, there are some much tougher, heavy-duty polyethylene tarps. These heavy-duty tarps are less prone to tears and punctures, and do not get brittle as quickly.

Their strength comes from using a heavier denier nylon thread, and usually with a much tighter weave. This makes the tarp thicker ? almost twice as thick - and therefore much longer lasting.

One example is the silver tarp, which is often preferred for its' UV resistance and heat reflective properties. With heavier thread and lamination, these premium silver tarps can be 2-3 times thicker than the standard hardware store variety.

Hems are the greatest point of stress, so the strongest tarps will also have heat-sealed hems, sometimes with a reinforcing rope inside. And there will be more grommets, spaced closer together, to spread the stress more effectively over the entire tarp.

In addition to basic and heavy duty versions, there is a size to meet almost any need. Small 6x8 sheets are available for just a few dollars. At the other end of the spectrum are the over-sized or very large athletic field covers and hay tarps. Need something in between ? Custom sizes are also available.

So the next time you look at that crumpled canvas or shiny blue sheet, you'll know there is more potential there than meets the eye.

John Bri is a regular contributor to That Covers It!, a collection of helpful information on a variety of shelters and protective coverings. You'll find tips and sources for tarps, pop-up and garden canopies, garage kits, and covers for your car, truck, boat, and RV.

    Easy Renovations for Your Home

Renovating should be a fun and exciting process (really!). The key is to plan the project out in advance, hire the right people, allot the appropriate amount of time, and make provisions for delays. Try not to make the completion date coincide with your birthday or anniversary. Begin waaaay before that date, if you're planning a special party, and even then, have an alternate location in mind.

Don't impose a time frame on yourself or your contractor that will create stress. At the same time, get a clear understanding of how long the project will probably take, and when it will begin. If it's a three month job and the work won't begin until November, your house will not be ready for a New Year's Party, unless you're celebrating Chinese New Year? This is a surprisingly common problem ? how much time the home owner thinks a project will take and that actual work time required.

There are no Contractor Fairies (and I refer here to the magical ones! Ha,ha,ha!) who can slip in the middle of the night and have the project done by the morning, although that would be good! (I'm guessing that there'd be some really loud dance music, anyway, which would just keep you awake?!) Have your Contractor include a probable time frame with the quote.

Have a clear idea of what you want before your contractor comes over. You don't have to sketch out the changes, but you should be able to tell him or her what changes you would like to see. Many good contractors will have done so many renos that they will immediately know what needs to be done, the approximate cost and time-frame. When a contractor tells you that 'the little bathroom' will cost about $3,000.00, don't think that your job will secretly only cost about $20.00, maybe a little less?then be shocked and dismayed when your bill comes in at?$3,000.00. You'd be surprised how many people have notions like that. Try not to fall into this trap, or to think that any changes you make once the job has started won't affect the price or the amount of time of a project. Always get written quotes for any work you are having done, that way you'll both be clear about the expectations for the job.

If you're really stuck trying to figure out how to improve an area in your home, consider hiring a Designer. Keep in mind that they can work within your budget, but if your budget is really tight, it's probably better to spend the consultation fee on new drapes or a toilet? If decision making is a problem area for you, and you're able to relinquish control, then a designer might be the clear solution. Shop around the same way you would for a contractor until you find someone you're really comfortable with, someone who will listen to what you want. Remember, it's your house, so do what's right for you. If you say, "Absolutely no red" and the designer says you need all red if you're going to be 'cutting edge', then choose another designer ? one who is more interested in catering to your needs.

    Is there a quick fix?

Often, there is a quick fix. If you aren't dealing with structural changes or a complete makeover, then consider a coat of paint, new flooring, new baseboards, and/or new window treatments. There are lots of things that you can do yourself, now. You might want to up-date your bathroom or kitchen with new flooring. There's a new glueless laminate 'wood' flooring that you can tackle on your own, if you are so inclined. Tiling is an excellent option, too, and you can learn how to do that on our site (click on the Tiling page), or attend a seminar at your local hardware store. A really nice throw rug can change the look of a room and add new life to an old carpet. Installation of new carpet should be professionally done, unless it's a small area and you are skilled at that.

Sometimes a simple change like up-dating your hardware (the knobs in your kitchen ? no, not your husband's friends! Ha,ha,ha! ) can make a huge difference in the overall look of a room. You may be able to paint your cabinetry if you don't want to replace it. If you are replacing the cabinets, Check out your Local Hardware Stores selection. You can check for price, availability, installation fees (don't try this alone!), and for some ideas in general that you like. They will provide you with a computer printout of what your completed kitchen will look like, if you arrange to meet with a Kitchen Designer and draw one out together.

If you have an old brick fireplace that you don't care for anymore, or want to give it a fresh look, consider painting it. This is not a crime?painted brick looks great! Generally, creamy shades work well, but you can choose what you like. Brick really soaks up the paint, so use a good primer, first.

You can also put a marble tile (slate works well, too) around the fireplace. Use the correct tile adhesive (ask at the store) and choose a nice grout.

You can actually buy a Fireplace Surround pre-made, or you can build your own Mantel with Crown Moulding and some nice lumber. You may want to bring in some help for this. While you're looking at the Fireplace Mantels, check out the cool 'Fireplace Overmantels' -- they're gorgeous! You can have mirror custom cut to fit in the center and make your house look fabulous, darling!

Changing the lighting can create a whole new look in your home. If it's not too complicated, you can do this on your own. If it's too tricky or dangerous, bring in an electrician. Changing the light switches and switch plates can make a huge difference, too. You can go from the past to the present in a flick of the switch! Ha,ha,ha!

Doors have a huge impact on how a house looks. Painting old wooden doors (the ones from the 60's and 70's) can add new life to them. Change the hardware while you're at it, and you'll have a nice new door! Switching to French Doors (the ones with the glass inserts) can add extra light to a room. You can get the glass with many different looks, if privacy is a concern. If your budget will allow, consider changing all the doors to the new white colonial style ? that looks nice in just about every home. They're clean and neat, and will brighten up a hallway.

Replacing your front door can give the house a real boost and probably add a bit of safety, too, since many of the new doors are made of steel. Sometimes adding a lovely screen door can create more interest at the front entry. When you change the doors, you will probably want to replace the baseboards, too. If you are trying to make the job as easy as possible, consider using Rosettes for the corners, then all the cuts will be straight ones. Use Dap to fill in any little gaps, or wood filler if you've gone with a wooden finish.

Also, Changing out the Garage Doors in an Older Home to Update the Exterior look of your house is a great idea. Garage Doors are a very reasonable price, these days -- some things become more reasonable as time goes on -- go figure! But changing out the Garage Doors can create an incredible new look for your house. And maybe add some nice neat Trim around the Doors, too!

Did you know that you can paint your appliances? It works, too. You can hire a painting service to do this if you're worried about the outcome. If you are getting new kitchen cabinetry, you can order matching covers for the appliances. Ask at the cabinet place for details to see if that is feasible in your kitchen. Sometimes your best bet is just to bite the bullet and buy new appliances. My favourite new appliance (who knew you could have a 'favorite appliance?!) is the Upright Freezer. I'm putting one in the new house, it's sooo cool! It looks like a refrigerator -- some the same height and almost the same size, and some a little shorter. You can arrange to have the door open from the left, if you have the fridge and upright freezer side by side, so access is even easier. Anyway, it saves 'losing' all those items at the bottom of a regular freezer that you can't remember and find a couple of years later? Also, there are some really neat new small appliances that will add more efficiency to your kitchen. There's a roasting oven that that just plugs in and sits on your countertop ? great for big dinner events when you could really use another oven.

If you have a small space with a closet (front entry, bedroom), consider changing the regular doors to mirrored doors. That really opens up a room and provides more light, quickly.

Window Treatments can make the world of difference in a room. There's a huge selection of gorgeous curtains, most of them reasonably priced. Shop around ? there are some great deals, out there. On-line shopping is perfect for this. At the very least, it'll give you an idea of what's available on the market. Adding a beautiful Valance will have a huge impact on the room. You can make them out of Crown Moulding if you like the wooden look, or you can build them out of plywood, cover with cotton batting, then material to suit your room, and staple them at the back. Be sure to get help hanging them on the wall as they will be quite heavy. Be sure to attach it where there's a stud, too. (Are you making your own stud jokes?! Ha,ha!) The relatively new wrought iron curtain rods with all the cool attachments are really attractive, too. They are much easier to install and generally less expensive than a valance. You can buy ready-made material valances, too ? they're usually offered with the set of curtains that you choose. Tie-backs can make a real difference, too, so have a wee look at them, as well.

Furniture plays a key role in the look of your house. There are some gorgeous slip covers available, if you don't want to replace your extra comfortable stuff! You could try your hand at reupholstering your furniture. It's not as hard as it looks, but it does take time and skill, but if you're a willing participant and plan it carefully, it should work out all right. Get a staple gun to make the job a little easier.

Maybe you're in the market for a new head board? You can make your own out of a nice door, with an even pattern, some nice Crown Moulding, and some legs. You can purchase these at any lumber store. Turn it on its' side to create the look you're after.

If you'd like a softer headboard, try covering a sheet of plywood with a fair bit of padding, then cover with material and staple. If it's big enough, you may be able to just sit it behind the head of the bed, or you can attach it to the frame.

Let go of your old notions about painting wooden furniture ? it can really bring it into the present (especially if it's that really dark wood so very popular in the 70's?). If you are painting a hutch, remember to paint the interior to keep it looking light. Adding additional lighting is easy with the new 'stick on lights' available at regular retail outlets. Smear Vaseline on the windows of the unit before you paint it to make clean up faster and easier.

You can replace the hardware, too, or paint that, as well. If you really want to be adventurous, you could tile the top of your dressers and end tables with a nice marble or ceramic tile. Check my'Tiling Page' to learn how to do this.

New Bedding can really change the feel of a bedroom. If you don't already have Bed skirts, try adding these. An easy and inexpensive way to create you own bed skirt is to take a flat sheet that is a size larger than your bed. Place it carefully on the bed to reach the floor around the bed, then make pleats at the corners. You can pin it, or just arrange the top mattress over the sheet to hold it in place. Try adding a Duvet Cover over an old comforter for a different look. You can get matching Pillow Cases, too, that'll really complete the look.

Speaking of Tiling, if your Kitchen Countertop has seen better days, you might want to consider tiling it. This is actually a surprisingly inexpensive venture, especially if you can do it yourself. Many arborite countertops have a little 'lip' at the outer edge, which you will probably have to plane down to create a smooth and square surface in preparation for the tile. You can also remove the old countertop and replace it with ? plywood (have it specially cut to fit), then tile on that. There are so many beautiful tiles to choose from, that the possibilities are endless. Look at all the different sizes of tile, too. People often think of the tiny tiles, or the 4" tiles, for a Countertop, but you can go much larger. The tile we chose for our next kitchen (you can watch this process by clicking on the Tiling box) is a 13" X 13" Green Marble Ceramic Tile ? gorgeous. Real marble tile is fantastic, too. There is a special grout to use for countertops, so be sure to tell your retailer what your project is. Also, using a thin grout line will make a real difference.

If your bathroom is in need of an up-date, a coat of paint might do the trick. Many people have successfully painted their tile. Ask your retailer what type of paint and finish you'll need for this. The bathtub can be painted, too ? there's a service that specializes in this, so check your local papers. Tub Surrounds are not a bad idea if there's no water damage on the walls. Tiling is always a good option. If you're doing it yourself, and you have to tear down the existing walls, remember to use waterproof drywall before you complete the wall finish. Replacing the countertop, sink, toilet, tub or fixtures will really improve the look of the bathroom. Call a professional before you 'get in too deep', though, and by that I mean before you end up in a foot of water ? outside of the bathroom!

Shelving can make a tremendous difference in the feel of you home if space is an issue. Check your closets to see if there's a space at the very top where a shelf could be added. That's usually wasted space, and you could store your 'opposite season' clothes up there. Can you build shelves into your Pantry to make more room for canned goods? Stackable baskets and boxes are useful for storing all the extra little things that cause clutter around the house. There are lots of shelving 'kits' on the market, now. They are often less expensive than buying all the materials to build your own shelves, so check these out first.

A really simple way to change the look and feel of your home is to rearrange the furniture. Sounds painfully simple, but it can breathe new life into a room. Also, the addition of some nice big tropical plants, some hanging plants, and/or some potted flowering plants will add life and colour to a room. Hanging some nice prints or other artwork will do wonders for your d?cor, too.

    Major Renovations

Generally, major renovations would encompass Remodeling a portion of your home or the whole thing. The important stuff to remember is not to get in too deep. A very common problem is taking on more than you can chew, usually right after watching your favourite renovation show on television! It always takes waaaay longer to do a renovation than what is accomplished with the magic of TV! Ha,ha,ha! For one, they have all kinds of professional help (free ? yours probably won't be?), and note how the camera carefully avoids any close-up shots of the finished work. If you race through a job, you'll have lots and lots of time afterward to look at all the mistakes. Take your time, plan it out carefully, and do one area at a time. Sounds obvious, but it's surprisingly easy to start ripping out all the stuff you don't like, then realize later that it takes forever to actually fix any given area. Much better to decide what needs to be done, write out a list, then prioritize. If you have the Walls and the Floors on the same list, do the walls first ? it'll be less stressful when the paint splatters!

If it's a huge remodeling job, consider how you will cope with all the mess. Do you have an alternate location where you can live during the renovations? How about a little area of the house that you can keep as a sanctuary? Give this some serious thought before you get started. It can be surprising how difficult life can be during a reno project. If you happen to have a House Trailer, this is probably a good time to 'camp out', if only for a little break from the chaos.

What It Takes To be An Entrepreneur Series: Action

Many people have the professed desire to be their own boss, start their own business ecetera, ecetera...

Trouble is, how many people actually take the steps necessary to fulfill their professed desire?

A recent incident that actually happened brough this principle clearly into focus.

I was recently told by someone who is quite well informed on the local stock market to invest into a certain stock as its value was about to increase substantially. Being the skeptic that I was, I just asked a few questions about the stock and left it as that, making no comments nor commitment.

That conversation stuck to my mind and I monitored the stock and did a little reseach on it as well. During this monitoring period, the stock fell from $1.63 to about $1.56. By then, I was quite convinced on this stock due to the research that I had done but was only willing to buy when there was an uptrend which I waited for.

I shared my research with a good friend who had recently been hit quite badly on some stocks he was invested in. Due to his recent losses, my good friend ignored my advice.

When the stock started trending up, I went into it with a few thousand shares and now three weeks later, just got out of it with a very healthy 30% + profit.

So the moral of the story is:

Opportunities abound if only we are aware of them. But if we choose not to take action, then the opportunities will just go right by us.

If my friend had just studied the research I had done and taken action, he could have recouped some of his previous losses. Instead, he chose to focus on his losses and moan and groan about them and let a golden opportunity fly by him.

For some people, even if the proverbial golden goose was presented to them on a platter, they would still find something wrong with it. It could be something as simple as "How much is it going to cost to upkeep this golden goose?" or something as silly as this. For these people, they would never be able to see an opportunity if it hit them on the head because they are always focussed only on the negatives, whether real or imagined.

For others who see the opportunity and take the necessary action, the world will be their oyster and provide limitless opportunities for them.

So, the question is, which type are you?

If you really want to be an entrepreneur, you must take the action required and not just sit back and be passive.

As the saying goes, "You Snooze, You Loose!"

So, take action, be bold and be successful

To Start Making Cash from Your Online Writing, You Must Draw Blood First

Writers write just like painters, paint on canvas. This is one of the reasons why it is important that you launch your writing career by getting some freelance writing work that you can get paid for doing.

It does not matter how small the job is or how little the money is that you get paid for it, the important thing is to "draw blood" and get paid for your writing. Everything else you do towards being a $100,000 writer will have to start from there.

You cannot do any serious online writing without coming across the phrase "keyword rich articles".

What are keyword articles? Keyword articles are articles that repeat a certain key word or key words. Keywords have the valuable power of attracting search engines. This is a complex subject but simply put, keywords are selected carefully in an effort to attract as much search engine traffic as possible to a site.

With the growing popularity of Google Adsense pay per click ads widely posted at web sites and blogs, keywords also have the important function of attracting the right Google ads to a site or blog that will earn the publisher the highest amount of cash when visitors to the site click on them.

You must begin by aggressively looking for freelance writing assignments for keywords. In the second part of this article we will suggest a few buyers of keyword articles that you can start off with. But they will only purchase quality articles that you have simply not copied or lifted from somewhere else. So it is very important that before you seek keyword articles, that you actually write a couple first and post them at leading article directories and article announcement sites. Visit sites to see how keyword articles are written and also visit my blog and read this article that uses the keywords (debt consolidation). Here is the link to the article.

    http://big-online-story.blogspot.com/2005/05/debt-consolidation-comes-before.html

    or this one

    http://marketingurhomebiz.blogspot.com/2005/05/before-you-can-effectively-market-your.html

Observe firstly how the article on a totally different subject from what the blogs are covering is made relevant to the blogs. Then take a close look at how the keywords are repeatedly used.

So now you are ready to write your first keyword article.

I can hear you ask the question.

"What on earth am I going to write about?"

Why not write about your keywords article business. You intend to supply keyword rich articles don't you?

Read the articles at my other blog (http://big-online-story.blogspot.com) carefully. Are there any of the articles that you can re-write in your own words without telling any lies about your past achievements as a writer so far? Please do not copy whole paragraphs from my blog. I have not given you permission to reproduce my articles. I have simply asked you to do what you can do with any site or blog online. Read and digest the central ideas and then write an article using the ideas as if there were your own. Select any simple keyword that you want to use that will be the central or key point in your article. (We will deal about the subject of selecting keywords for your articles later on in this blog).

Remember that you will really have to be convincing so select topics that you care about enough and believe in from my blog, to be convincing. A writer who is not convincing in their writing will never be successful at any type of writing, so this is a very critical skill you will need to acquire if you are to succeed.

Next you will have to compile your resource box. This is a skill on it's own and I have an extremely useful article on the subject at my blog http://marketingurhomebiz.blogspot.com. It is titled "Your article resource box will kill or lift your internet marketing."

Read it and carefully use the valuable points gained from years of experience and trial and error to create your best resource box to launch off your career as a writer.

Christopher Kyalo earns a living from his online writing. Read the second and final part of this article at his blog http://100grandonlinewriters.blogspot.com
